Recommended Reading for Teachers & Students

Bob Zaslow's (aka Mr. Z) new book, Rap-Notes - Shakespeare's Greatest Hits (Vol. 1) has been published by Xlibris press. In the book, Zaslow, a teacher, member of the UFT Players and playwright, summarizes five of  Shakespeare's great plays in the book: Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear, Romeo & Juliet and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

But the author, "In an effort to turn on middle-school and high-school kids to William Shakespeare's glorious poetic language and brilliant thinking" has written the summaries in an unusual way...they’re raps. They all rhyme, and they’re meant to be read with a funky beat.

Have fun reading and using this inventive and engaging  book in your own classrooms! It  is available for purchase in hardcover, softcover and eBook forms online at  Amazon,  Barnes and Noble and the publisher's site.

Recommended Reading - Two New Books by Our Own Milton Polsky

Milton Polsky, co-chair of the UFT Players, has had TWO books published recently.

A Shakespeare Trilogy: Three Apocryphal Tales of How the Bard Wrote his Plays, contains plays written by Polsky suggesting possible real-life inspirations for three of Shakespeare's greatest works, Macbeth, The Merchant of Venice and A Midsummer Night's Dream. The book is published by Puck Press. (Contact via email @ puckpress@gmail.com - educators receive a 20% discount.)

"Dr. Polsky displays a true love of Shakespeare, which shows in his every word. These three plays are full of whimsy and passion, in free and easy dialogue - enjoyable and immensely actable!"
Joanne Zipay (Founder & Artistic Director of the Judith Shakespeare Company, NYC)

By the way, the three plays were produced by the UFT Players during our 2009-2010 season!

The second book, Drama Workshop for Seniors - Improv Games and Scenes, grew out of Improv classes Polsky teaches at the UFT. The book contains engaging photos, handy tips and suggestions for reflection and discussion as well as the improv and theater games Polsky teaches in his popular classes. The book is published by Players Press and is available at Amazon.com
