Group Poem - Written by Attendees at the April 8th Poetry Event

 REMEMBER

Remember the steadfast mountains against Mother Sky.

Remember the birth of my children.

Remember my mother.

Remember my father.

Remember the breath of life, the chi which pulsates in every living creature, animal and plant.

Remember to tell your story in words and deeds, lightning the way for others to follow.

Remember the African Holocaust of the 1500s and 1600s that cast bodies to sharks in the Atlantic Ocean.

Remember the days and events that leave glowing memories to fill the darkest hours.

Remember the beauty of human understanding and acceptance.

Remember to care to look for the good in every person and situation.

Remember the fun times we had as children playing bouncing ballgames and Potsie on the sidewalk.

Remember all those you loved and who loved you.

Remember that each sunrise is unique and that we should live our lives with adventure.

Remember Milt who always came to my performances and gave great encouragement.

Remember the days, all the days when a slice of pizza was 15 cents.

Remember all that is positive and glowing in each other and in nature.

Remember all the eras of your life.

Remember that each person should contribute to the world spinning in the right direction.

Remember the joy buried deep within your soul.

Remember your teachers throughout the years; their devotion and patience; their tolerance and kindnesses.

Remember the dogs and the comfort they provide.

Remember to pet your cat.

Remember that family is thicker than water and their love is for eternity.

Remember the ocean’s questions and the land’s answers and remember the ebb and flow of the waves of despair and hope.

Remember our children for they will inherit the future earth.

Remember the rainbow.

Remember life goes by too fast, so carpe diem.

Remember all those who fought for freedom and justice.

Remember that play is the nectar of the Gods.

Remember the end contains the beginning.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to this beautiful poem!

In Honor of Milton Polsky - Make a Donation to The Public Theater

IN MEMORY OF MILTON E. POLSKY

As a writer and educator, one of Milton’s greatest inspirations was William Shakespeare. He studied the Bard for decades and even wrote books about Shakespeare including Dear Will, Sound Advice from Shakespeare. Each year, Milt looked forward to The Public Theater's productions of Shakespeare in the Park. He began attending the performances with his wife Roberta when the Delacorte Theater first opened. And every summer, he cherished the opportunity to wait in line for free tickets — and then enjoyed the shows with his family and friends. In August of 2001, with Roberta by his side, he slept on the ticket line overnight in front of The Public in order to get highly-coveted tickets for Chekhov's The Seagull. He felt so much joy being in the Delacorte Theater.

We mourn the passing of Milton Polsky, cherished member of The Public Theater community. We celebrate his love of Free Shakespeare in the Park, a tradition that has provided free Shakespeare to millions of New Yorkers for generations. We will miss him and continue to honor him.

To make a gift in Milton’s memory, please donate below. Your support will ensure that Free Shakespeare in the Park continues for generations to come.
