Greenwich House Tribute to Milton Polsky

Greenwich House joins the community in mourning
Milton Polsky

Milt was part of our Senior Center Community, and a loyal member of the Shakespeare Class.  We were for fortunate to have a member, so full of life always with a joy for life.  He was friendly and kind  to the staff, volunteers, and others, and that spirit was felt all over the community.   Milt was dedicated to the Monday morning Shakespeare class, and never missed a week, even when the class continued online- he was one of the first participants to log on.
We will miss him, and continue to honor him.

Thank you to Leo Schaff, beloved Greenwich House Shakespeare Consultant, who had lovely words about Milt:
Even in the years before Zoom, Milt was a dedicated member of our Monday morning Shakespeare class, always coming early for a seat in the front row, ready to share his great spirit of joy, enthusiasm, and insight.  Though he may not have been an official member of Greenwich House, his wit and heart and energy brought such a genuine feeling of caring and community to us all.  As playwright, educator, inspiration, and true Shakespearean -what a good, kind, unforgettable "character" he was.  Will miss him dearly and deeply.

Please see the tribute from friend and fellow center member, Warren Wyss
Milt had been a guiding light in educational theater for many years.  His stints in children’s theater programs and school productions as a high school English teacher made him a valuable partner for years in NYSTEA, an organization that advocates educational theater in New York State.  As an author, he has written over twenty books and plays.  In the United Federation of Teachers, he has taught courses in play-writing and improvisation and has led the UFT Players in producing over 100 theatrical productions over a span of almost 25 years.  Milt had been a devoted family man, enjoying the bounties of life with his wife Roberta, his two children Jonah and Maddy, and three grandchildren.
His friends will always remember Milt for his kindness, his energy, his love of Shakespeare, and his inspiration for others to make the best of their talents We will all miss him.
