We did...on September 24th to kick off our 14th season and it was a rousing success! The people who attended got to read some famous quotes about poetry, shared poems (some read and some sung) written by famous poets or soon-to-be-famous ones (ie themselves!) and added their own rhyming couplets (below) to a Shel Silverstein poem entitled "whatif."
Whatif my pen runs out of ink? ~ Does this mean I can't really think?
Whatif I lose my voice? ~ Whatif I have no choice?
Whatif I have to pee? ~ Whatif I see no tree?
Whatif I forget the words? ~ Whatif diamonds turn into turds?
Whatif poems won't appear? ~ Whatif steering wheels will not steer?
Whatif my coffee doesn't perk? ~ Whatif the subway crazy goes berserk?
Whatif I can't fall asleep? ~ Whatif there are sirens in the street?
Whatif when a chocolate dinosaur melts ~ No one wants his gooey pelts?
Whatif I never get a date? ~ Will that be sad or just be fate?
Whatif I get a parking ticket? ~ Whatif I buy a stamp and don't wanna lick it?
Whatif my taxes shrink to naught? ~ Whatif my cheekbones don't go taut?
Whatif I cannot write a couplet? ~ Whatif Emma has a puplet?
Whatif I can't write rhyme? ~ Whatif you can't either?
Whatif I knew Churchill or FDR? ~ Whatif I was a homerun champ?
Whatif I lived in Minnesota? ~ Whatif I couldn't finish Ulysses?
